Chum Creek Primary is gearing up to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the school on Saturday 4 March.
The school was established originally in October 1897, but the current celebration has been held off until now due to Covid.
The primary school was the first permanent government school building built along Chum Creek and its 1922 timber building replaced 1897 and 1918 leased accommodation.
The school is inviting past and present school and community members to come down to the school to celebrate this milestone.
Parent and school council president Tabitha Barclay is hoping the event will go well.
“We’ve put the word out to old and new Chummies to come and meet up and just you know, say g’day and come back to visit their old school and the school community,” Ms Barclay said.
The school is a smaller school with 54 students and the community has been busy prepping for the celebration with lots planned. The event will be music, art and activity filled.
Community members will be encouraged to write memoirs and participate in reestablishing a time capsule for the school.
“It ever ceases to amaze me how much we achieved for such a small school. Everyone pitches in, that’s really a team effort from you know,” Ms Barlcay said.
The event will be held on Saturday 4 March at Chum Creek Primary from noon onwards.
