New data from the State Government has revealed Labor’s astonishing neglect of the roads, with the area of road maintenance undertaken across Victoria falling by a whopping 95 per cent.

Eildon MP Cindy McLeish said major roads across the electorate are crumbling under Labor’s watch.

Data published in the Department of Transport and Planning annual report shows the area of road “rehabilitated or resurfaced” in regional Victoria fell to just 422,000 square metres in 2023/24, down from 9 million the year before and 11.5 million in the prior year. There were also dramatic falls in inner and outer suburban Melbourne.

Unsurprisingly, it was confirmed only 69 per cent of regional projects and 39 per cent of metropolitan finished on time.

Ms McLeish said the Allan Labor Government are failing the roads and failing to complete projects on time.

“The evidence is on our car’s broken rims, busted tyres and wonky wheel alignments,” she said.

“Road users are sick and tired of forking out hundreds, if not thousands of dollars to repair their vehicles, only for them to be damaged again and again.

“Labor can’t manage money and it’s our roads and Victorian motorists that are paying the price.”

Some of the worst roads across the electorate include the Warburton Highway, Melba Highway, Eltham-Yarra Glen Road, and Kangaroo Ground-St Andrews Road.

Ms McLeish has spoken in Parliament about the failing condition of roads across the electorate 13 times this year alone and called on the Minister for Roads to ensure road repairs and safety improvements be made 17 times between February to October.
