Works to repair two landslips on the Melba Highway in Dixons Creek were paused, with the highway reopening in late February 2025.
There is currently a temporary 40km/h speed limit through the landslip site to ensure the safety of all road users.
Major repair works are now expected to resume in late 2025, after winter.
The works depend on weather and ground conditions.
Transport Victoria will monitor both closely and confirm the start dates later in the year.
It is also reviewing the construction approach to reduce the disruption to the community and address safety issues observed during initial works.
Before the major repair works start in late 2025, you may notice crews on-site occasionally to monitor the site and complete any essential safety works.
There may be temporary traffic changes including lane closures or reduced speed limits to help ensure everyone’s safety.
Interim safety works
Transport Victoria is completing interim safety works at the landslip site that will enable the reinstatement of the 80km/h speed limit.
Works are expected to commence on Monday 31 March and be completed by Friday 4 April. Crews will work during the day between 7am and 7pm.
Works include installing safety barriers, clearing drains and installing logs to stabilise the embankment and reduce further water impact.
During works, one lane on the Melba Highway will remain open with reduced speed limits in place.
Traffic controllers will be on-site to manage two-way traffic.
About the project
Transport Victoria is repairing two landslips on a section of the Melba Highway in Dixons Creek, just south of the Healesville-Kinglake Road intersection.
This will involve:
excavating and removing the damaged road pavement
building retaining walls
reinstating and stabilising the road asphalt layers
improving drainage
reinstating safety barriers, signs and line marking.
Other works in the area
While we repair the landslips on the Melba Highway, we will also be working in Yarra Glen and nearby areas to complete road maintenance activities.
This includes resurfacing and road rehabilitation works on a range of roads and the Maroondah Aqueduct bridge maintenance project on Eltham-Yarra Glen Road.
