Tick of approval for bushfire plan

By Kath Gannaway
THE Shire of Yarra Ranges’ plan to help reduce the bushfire risk has been given the tick of approval.
The CFA has recently approved the shire’s Fire Prevention Plan 2007-2010.
Yarra Ranges councillor Noel Cliff said the plan was reviewed every three years and presented to the CFA for auditing.
“We passed with flying colours again this year,” he said.
The plan identifies the risks to the community from wildfire and other fires.
It outlines strategies to reduce the risk to the community, such as inspection, education and enforcement programs and identifies those agencies responsible for carrying out these strategies.
The progress made toward achieving the tasks is reviewed annually by the Yarra Ranges Municipal Fire Prevention Committee.
This committee is made up of representatives of all the CFA Brigades within the shire as well as council and other government agencies such as the Department of Sustainability and Environment and Parks Victoria.
The shire’s Fire Prevention Plan can be viewed online at www.yarraranges.vic.gov.au under Emergency and Safety Planning.
