Mount Evelyn wins grand final battle

By Carli Mitchell
THE two outstanding netball teams of the season, Mount Evelyn and Wandin, battled it out in front of a huge crowd in the A grade Division One YVMDFNL grand final.
As expected, the game was spectacular with the play rising to new heights as each minute went by. Both teams’ defensive efforts were simply amazing to watch with Wandin’s Olivia Aughton and Lauren Close proving almost unstoppable in their leaping and rebounding of missed goals. However, after a struggle that lasted until the final quarter, Mount Evelyn managed to get on top of its opponents, defeating Wandin 36 – 23. Mount Evelyn player-coach Jade Hottes was adjudged the best on court.

THE B-grade grand final between Mount Evelyn and Upwey Tecoma proved to be a great contest with every player on court performing at their absolute best in an effort to get their team across the line. Both teams were in with a sniff of the premiership as margins were constantly changing throughout the match. Upwey Tecoma walked away heartbroken in the end as Mount Evelyn mounted a comeback to win by two goals, 31 – 29. Best on court was awarded to Mt Evelyn’s Rachael Hickey.

FAVOURITE Upwey Tecoma had to work hard against its opponent Wandin, who started its grand final strongly. However, as the game progressed, Upwey Tecoma got into the game and justified the ‘favourite’ tag. It’s centre court players were explosive and the shooters missed few goals, helping the side to a 30 – 18 victory. Best on court was awarded to Mt Evelyn’s Brenda Van Kuelen.
