AFL Yarra Ranges’ annual Dreamtime match was again a well-attended, spectacular and spirited affair.
Held at the Don Road Sporting Complex, Healesville, on Saturday 2 June, many fans turned out for the clash, which occurred during the same week as the Sir Doug Nichols’ ‘Dreamtime at the G’ AFL game.
Aboriginal Elder, Aunty Joy Murphy, said the match recognised the many top Indigenous footballers to have come from the region.
The player’s jumpers, and the netballers’ dresses, were designed by Healesville designer, Sophie Young, and included important Wurumdjeri symbols such as Eucalyptus leaves, a boomerang and Warin (wombat).
The combatants, Healesville and Woori Yallock, went toe-to-toe from the outset.
However, the home team showed their class and ran away with a stirring victory, Healesville 10.15 (75) defeating Woori Yallock 5.9 (39).
