Yarra Glen girls can play too

JetStream - Yarra Glen and Coldstream - claimed the flag in the Under 14s this year.

Hawks young gun James Sicily and Melbourne Vixen Rahni Samason will be attending the Yarra Glen Junior Football and Netball Club registration day.

The YGJFNC event will run from 4pm to 6pm on Sunday 25 November at the Yarra Glen Reserve.

The club will have girls’ teams in under-10, under-12, under-14 and under-16 next season.

“This will provide a great pathway for girls in the area who have an interest in playing Australian Rules, however it hasn’t always been this easy for talented girls to find their way if they have wanted to continue to play beyond under-12,” president Bernie Wood said.

“We are really looking forward to the season.

“We have great female-friendly change rooms at Yarra Glen and have a team of dedicated coaches to ensure all girls who have an interest in the game can follow their passion and continue to play if they want to.

“We had a great year last year fielding teams in every age group (except under-18) and our under-14 Jetstream girls (Yarra Glen and Coldstream) took out the flag.”

Wood said the club was planning to field an under-18 girls’ team this year.

“We also offer junior netball in under-9, under-11, under-13, under-15 and under-17 so we have plenty of opportunities for girls to become active and participate in sport during 2019,” he said.
