HEALESVILLE residents have the chance this month to show just how much they appreciate the work done by young people in looking after the environment.
Badger Creek Primary School is in the running for a National Landcare Award for its contribution to the environment and to the local community as a voluntary junior landcare group.
The school is nominated for the Westpac Education Award along with seven other finalists from across Australia all vying for the top honour.
School members will be in Canberra for the National Landcare dinner and awards night at Parliament house on 24 June when the winners of each of the 12 categories will be announced.
Badger Creek Primary School is also in the running for the People’s Choice Award and organisers, and the school, is encouraging Yarra Valley residents to go on-line and put in a vote for the local champions.
Heather Campbell, CEO Landcare Australia congratulated Badger Creek Primary School on its achievement.
“The awards recognise individuals and groups from all corners of Australia who are tackling the tough environmental issues,” Ms Campbell said.
“Healesville can be proud to have a local school nominated for these awards and I encourage the local community to show their support for Badger Creek Primary School by voting for them in the People’s Choice Award,” said Ms Campbell.
