What was described as a ‘gay and giddy’ night, the Fire Brigade’s monthly euchre party and dance was a great success.
Mr. W. Holness, the Metropolitan Fire Brigade officer who was killed recently at the big fire in Melbourne was well known in Healesville, where he enlisted to take part in the late war.
Americans at Healesville
“Some day, sure” was the unanimous verdict of the boys of the visiting American Fleet who were at Healesville on Monday, of a return visit.
The setting for the reception at Healesville was organised most capably reflecting credit on those who willingly gave their services so that the town should maintain the hospitality that its premier position as a tourist resort demands.

New Don Valley School Opened
DON Valley’s new tworoomed State School was officially opened last Thursday by Mr. Phil Connell, MLA.
Special tribute was paid to the parents and Mothers’ Club for their untiring efforts that eventually resulted in the school being built. Over 60 children had been taught in only one room.
Fire at Tuckman’s Mill
A fire, which broke out at Tuckman’s Mill, (Fox’s Mill) Warburton at about 9.30pm last Friday damaged saw benches and other equipment.
It is believed a hot bearing ignited sawdust while the mill was in operation during the day.
Business Changes Hands
Upper Yarra’s only chemist shop, the Warburton Pharmacy, has changed hands (now Yarra Valley Showcase). Mr. T. W. Procter who has conducted the business for the past 25 years has disposed of his interests to Mr. P. Bartold of Healesville.
