What the doctor ordered

NOW ‘partly’ retired Healesville doctor, Ian Tinney, has a little more time to stop and smell the roses.
That’s a metaphor, or course, but it’s not too far from the truth.
Dr Tinney is part of a group working to set up a University of the Third Age (U3A) in Healesville, and among a few different things he says he would like to do is ‘picking the brains of someone with a bit more gardening knowledge than me’.
Dr Tinney says U3A will provide a means for older people to tap into new learning opportunities.
“There are a lot of people my age around here who are really functioning hard and this would allow them to have another option to pursue the things they want to do,” he said.
Luisa Williams, of the Golden Wattle Club, is coordinating the project which she said is about matching people with other people for life-long learning.
For an annual fee of between $30 and $40, members are able to attend as many U3A classes as they like.
A public meeting will be held at Swinburne TAFE Healesville Campus on Thursday, 27 April, at 1.30pm for interested members of the public to show their support for, and provide ideas for, a U3A in Healesville.
