Train station parking set to be upgraded

COMMUTERS at Lilydale Station will benefit from 90 new car parking spaces as part of funding allocated in the recent State Government budget.
Public Transport Minister Lynne Kosky said the funding recognised the need to continue delivering improvements to Victoria’s public transport network.
“The Brumby Government is taking action to deal with the massive patronage growth on the rail network and this has significantly increased demand for car parking at some stations,” Ms Kosky said.
“The upgrade to car parking at Lilydale Station recognises the needs of the growing Lilydale community and will help to relieve parking pressure at the station.”
“We will deliver all of the new parking spaces at Lilydale by 2012.”
Local MP James Merlino welcomed the boost to parking at Lilydale.
“This car park upgrade will allow more people to park their cars, board a train and travel into the city or across to other suburbs,” Mr Merlino said.
“This is particularly good news for people who live further away from the station.”
Ms Kosky said the parking upgrades at Lilydale Station were the latest initiative to improve services on the Belgrave and Lilydale lines.
