Cowgirls caroling at Christmas

By Kath Gannaway
THE Mountain Country Carol Singers have “geared up” for their annual round of performances to bring their special brand of Christmas cheer to charities and community groups this year.
The Healesville-based group – Leanne (Denise) Sheila (Karen) Narelle (Julee) Kylie (Sandy) and Coreen (Corina) have been rehearsing through winter to polish their act.
“The girls have dug deep to unearth their inner cowgirls this year and we have added several new songs to our repertoire to round out our performances. We have also added some instrumentation to add light and shade,” group leader Leanne said.
“Community groups ask us back so we have to have new material to make it interesting for them and for us,” she added.
Leanne describes their act as “Christmas carols sung to Country and Western tunes.”
“It’s a light-hearted performance – the audience is always surprised and really enjoy hearing these songs done in a new way,” she said.
Fresh from their performance at the Ringwood Masonic Lodge, the group has more bookings than they are able to accommodate this Christmas.
To catch a performance of these locally grown cowgirl carollers, mosey on up to Toolangi on Thursday 18 December at 7.30pm where they will be headlining the Toolangi Christmas Carols at the CJ Dennis Hall.
