Hoddles Creek claims spoils

HEALESVILLE and Hoddles Creek went head to head in the Yarra Valley Cricket Association’s one day grade final on Saturday at the Gruyere cricket ground.
Hoddles Creek batted first and, after its allotted overs, reached 162. Robertson was the standout for the Hoddles Creek side, making 62, while Bunn took 4/40 for Healesville.
After tea, Healesville went about chasing down Hoddles Creek’s score but could only manage a modest 116. Bunn backed up his solid bowling spell with 42 hard-earned runs, while Jones took 3/46 for the 2010-11 premiers, Hoddles Creek.
Healesville’s Steve James won the THR Drummond Medal for the YVCA ‘Cricketer of the Year’ at last Friday’s association presentation night.
James won on 15 votes, ahead of Seville’s Ishara Amerasinghe and Woori Yallock’s Michael King on 13, and Danny Hyndman – also of Woori Yallock – on 12.
Seville’s Scott Rackham won the VJ Haag medal for the RA Finger Trophy’s best player. He finished one vote clear of team mate Alex Bell and Dean Prouse from Gruyere.
The YVCA Team of the Year, as selected by DJ Strachan Shield club captains, was also announced as follows: Liam Barnard (wk), Luke Jones, David Lever, Kane Jones (vc), Michael King, Danny Hyndman (cap), Brenton Derix, Luke Darwall, Matt Tilney, Ishara Amerasinghe, and Jackson Wright. Stephen Shallcross and Rob Webb were announced the association’s best umpires.
