WARBURTON showed definite signs of improvement since last year and Gembrook didn’t look too bad at times either but would be disappointed in its loss in Division One A Grade netball.

Having moved up to Division One for 2011, Yarra Glen struck Healesville with Kylie Malone unstoppable with 48 goals. Healesville was simply too strong for Yarra Glen, even at home, and the defeat was a big learning curve for the home side.

After playing finals last season, Upwey looked to be even stronger and faster, with good ball movement and accurate shooting.

Monbulk was slow to get into this match and Woori Yallock was quick off the mark. It gained the lead early and never looked like losing it.
Monbulk picked up in the last half, led by Hayley Moffat in defence, Sophie Byatt in goals and Rebecca McCormick in the centre court. But it was not enough to defeat Woori Yallock, which was too strong and accurate.

A GRADE

After winning a close match against Seville the week before, Emerald came out firing against Belgrave. Megan Whiteroad starred for Emerald with 35 goals. Belgrave is still on the way up and, despite losing by 33 goals, the loss can be viewed as a learning curve.

Yarra Junction’s loss the previous week factored into its win over Kinglake, which had a poor game compared with the previous week’s win.

Last year’s runner-up hosted last year’s reigning premiers and, as expected, this game was a good spectacle. Spectators from both teams would have been pleased with their side’s performance. Powelltown got on top of Yea thanks to their goalers Stephanie Broadway and Ella Bound.

After narrowly losing to Emerald the previous week, Seville came into this match with more ferocity. Hosting Alexandra scored a convincing 25-goal win.
