MELBOURNE Cup Day is as much about the glitz and glamour of Fashion on the Field as it is about the horses, but the entire crowd at Yarra Glen paused to watch the big screen as Black Caviar won again.
About 6000 people frocked up for Melbourne Cup Day at the Yarra Glen Racecourse.
Yarra Valley Racing chief executive Brett Shambrook said it was less than the 10,000 in 2009, but it was a great result after being washed out last year and the wet weather they had leading up to the event.
Yarra Glen also held its inaugural Oaks Day meeting with about 800 people in attendance.
“We were very pleased with that result and see it as a good platform for the future growth of another feature event,” Mr Shambrook said.
“Fashions on the Field was a highlight on both days with both male and female categories keenly contested.”
