YELLINGBO fire fighters are calling on their local community to stand up and support the work they do.
The firefighters turn out to some 50 incidents a year including car accidents, storm and wind damage, search and rescue, animal rescue and fires and the volunteers will be door knocking on the second weekend of December to raise cash to support their efforts.
Yellingbo CFA captain Paul Spinks said the door knock was one of their biggest fundraisers and the brigade relied heavily on community donations.
“Since its creation in 1954 the Yellingbo Volunteer Rural Fire Brigade have been actively supporting and protecting the Yellingbo community and its surrounding areas,” he said. “This service, unfortunately, doesn’t come cheap… which is why we are now asking for your help.”
Mr Spinks said the funds raised from the door knock would go towards the brigade and community’s new emergency rehab vehicle which should be in service by Christmas, equipping the two new 1000 litre 4WD fire fighting vehicles which should be in service by mid next year, and equipping the new station which should be built and be ready for use by mid next year as well.
He encouraged the community to also take the opportunity and ask brigade members about personal fire plans, upcoming meetings and active or non-active volunteering.
