WHEN the vets from Monbulk aren’t busy in surgery or seeing patients at the clinic they can be seen travelling around the hills on their way to visit horses, cows, goats and other farm animals.
“Equine and cattle work adds a great diversity to the scope of the clinic and it’s great to be able to look after all our clients’ entire family,” said Dr Gemma Coulter.
“It is not uncommon for a goat or a cow to be the favourite pet, rather than the traditional idea of a dog or cat filling that special spot.”
Dr Tina Kertesz has a similar passion when it comes to looking after both domestic pets and hobby farm animals.
“When I first ever dreamed of becoming a vet, I imagined looking after all animals, both large and small, and it’s fantastic to be working up in the hills where I get the best of both worlds,” she said.
“Every day sees Gemma and I seeing all our favourite dogs and cats, perform both routine and advanced surgery as required, then put on some overalls and head out to see a horse or perhaps a goat, pig or cow.
“Every day brings something interesting and it is incredibly rewarding to be able to help look after these fantastic patients.”
The clinic has gone through a process of modernisation over the last few years which has included equipping the clinic with state-of-the-art digital X-ray and ultra sound, and giving the rooms a new coat of paint has definitely spruced the place up.
The clinic has also joined forces with Box Hill Tafe and Open colleges to become an academic partner in training up a new generation of veterinary nurses under the supervision of the vets and qualified vet nurses, so in every sense our local vet clinic at Monbulk is doing big things!
Monbulk Vet Clinic is located at 2 Nugent Street, Monbulk.
