Caravan park fined after camper was killed by fallen tree branch

Yarra Valley Park Lane Holiday Park Pty Ltd is due at Melbourne Magistrates Court on 26 May 2022.

Yarra Valley Park Lane Holiday Park Pty Ltd is facing two charges following the death of a camper due to a fallen tree branch in March last year.

The man in his 40s was sleeping alone in a tent when the large branch fell at the Healesville BIG4 Yarra Valley Park Lane Holiday Park on Don Road.

The charges the business face is under Section 26(1) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act for failing to ensure that the workplace was safe and without risks to health.

WorkSafe alleges the company failed to take reasonable measures to reduce the risk of that branch falling and also to reduce the risk of other branches falling and causing serious injury or death.

The matter is listed for a filing hearing at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 26 May 2022.
