Home finals locked in for two Yarra Glen sides

Yarra Glen Bowls Club has home finals locked in for two of the Yarra Glen sides

The last round of home and away matches for the Yarra Glen bowls club from division four and seven sides saw them both secure home finals, despite mixed results.

Division four travelled to Mooroolbark and encountered a quick playing surface. Despite relative ladder positions, the team was only three shots up at the half-way point.

The team picked up seven of the next eight ends after the break to open up a lead of 20 shots and held that lead for the rest of the game.

The result was a four rink win 91/76. R.

Bates 19/14; M. Ramage 26/21; S. Smith 22/21; R. Thurkle 24/20.

Division seven played top of the ladder Cockatoo-Monbulk, and whilst going down, earned enough points to hold onto third on the ladder.

The final score 67/96. D. Batten 20/18; S. Elliot 19/21; G. Rowe 20/23; J. Senior 8/34.

Next week sees Division four with a double chance, playing Mitcham at home in the 2nd semi-final.

Division four plays the elimination 1st semi-final against Yarra Junction, also on home turf.

Division one played a must win game against Yarraville-Footscray at home.

Three out of the four rinks won, an overall 104/58 result.

S. Manifold 27/12; M. O’Brien 32/12; G. Senior 19/21; Ben Simmons 26/13.

With two home and away rounds still to go in division one, we will need to continue our winning ways to play in the finals.

For Tuesday Midweek Pennant, side one played fellow cellar dwellers Hurstbridge at home.

Two winning rinks were not enough however, with the team going down 47/57.

G. Baker 11/23; R. Bates 20/19; P. Leonard 16/15.

Side two had a top of the table clash with Lilydale, winning 64/49.

D. Milner 28/14; G. Rowe 19/16; J. Senior 17/19.

There is one round to go, Side two is finals bound, and Side one hoping to be more competitive in division two next season.
