Cash marked for schools upgrade

BADGER Creek Primary School has received almost $20,000 in maintenance funds from the State Government for landscaping and wall repairs.
The much needed cash injection is part of the Bracks Government’s $16 million school maintenance plan which also saw Marysville Primary School and Kinglake Primary School receive a share of the funds.
Marysville Primary School will receive $5592 to replace heaters while Kinglake Primary School will receive a massive $28,318 for urgent general repairs to address lighting, power and heating problems.
Seymour MP Ben Hardman said the maintenance projects will make a big difference to the schools.
“The Bracks Government is undertaking a capital works program in schools of unprecedented scope but ongoing maintenance is ensure the quality of existing facilities is equally important,” Mr Hardman said.
The $16 million in maintenance comes in addition to the Bracks Governments $1.9 billion commitment to rebuild or modernise 500 government schools over the next four years and every Victorian government school over the next decade.
Healesville Primary School and Healesville High School are marked down to receive thousands of dollars in funding but won’t know yet if they will see it next year or in 10 years.
Schools which did not receive funding in this year’s allocation include Yarra Glen Primary School, Toolangi Primary School, Kinglake West Primary School and Middle Kinglake Primary School.
