Texas time is treat for dad

By Kath Gannaway
THE Alpine Retreat Hotel’s Texas T-Bone tops a special Father’s Day menu designed especially with hungry dads in mind.
While, traditionally, Father’s Day is not as busy as Mother’s Day in the hospitality industry, all that may be about to change.
Chefs Jason Draper and Nelly Stone are pulling out all stops to provide dads (and their loved-ones) with a great lunch or dinner on Sunday 7 September.
Jason hasn’t finalised the menu but, clearly, he is inspired.
Carpetbag steak, oysters Kilpatrick, Atlantic salmon and trout have made the A-list, along with, of course, the Alpine’s famous 500gram T-bone.
“The Texas-T is fantastic,” Jason said.
“It’s cooked to each person’s liking and served with a choice of sauces including seafood, pepper, mushroom, gravy or garlic butter.”
The menu won’t be completed until Jason and Nelly are happy it offers something to suit every dad’s taste.
Lambs fry? Absolutely.
“A lot of our older men really like it,” Jason said.
The $8 children’s menu will offer the usual variety of child-friendly meals to keep younger family members happy.
A good selection of local and regional wines is available to accompany the meal and for sweet-toothed dads there is a delicious choice of desserts.
Diners can enjoy their meal in the family bistro, the Atrium restaurant or in the beer garden.
The Alpine also offers accommodation so why not give dad a real treat with a weekend away from as little as $95 for a room overlooking the Yarra River.
The Alpine is open for lunch from Wednesday to Sunday and on public holidays, and for dinner every night.
