Running for fun

By Monique Ebrington
RUN, run, run as fast as you can, or walk, in the fifth annual Up and Running Fun Run in Warburton on Sunday 5 March.
Participants can choose between a five or 10km run that heads east from Warburton Recreation reserve.
As in past years there will also be a 2km run for children aged 14-years-old and under and a 5km walk that is open to everyone.
The course runs alongside the Yarra River and while the majority of the path is flat, competitors are warned that sections do become undulating and not all of the path is sealed.
Overall placegetter prizes include luxury accommodation packages and cash prizes.
All competitors will also go into the draw for spot prizes, including a luxury accommodation package.
Local entrants living under the 3799 area code can also go into the draw for a three-month membership of the YMCA Yarra Recreation Centre in Yarra Junction and other spot prizes.
Medals will be awarded to those participants who come in first place in their age group and age groups are recorded in five-year intervals.
The children’s 2km fun run and the 5km walk will start at 8.30am and the 5 and 10km fun run will start at 9.15am.
Registration will be open from 7am at the Warburton Recreation Reserve.
There is an early bird discount for participants who register before 17 February through the Up and Running Fun Run website.
