ALAN Jones has a shed and he’s looking for men to help put it to work.
Mr Jones, co-ordinator of the new Healesville Men’s Shed project, is looking for men interested in taking part in the project, volunteers to help, and any useful tools and materials which are going begging.
He said the Men’s Shed project would provide an opportunity for men to meet and make new friends while participating in activities substantially of their own choice.
The program will run from the woodwork shed at Healesville Living and Learning Centre but Mr Jones was keen to point out that activities are not restricted to woodwork.
“That will provide a starting point, but it is anticipated the men will determine how the shed is run and what they will do,” he said.
The plan is to improve men’s physical and mental wellbeing, strengthen their connection with the community and provide opportunities to develop and share skills.
“They will be able to participate in projects of their own choosing as well as for the benefit of the community,” Mr Jones said.
Donations of materials and tools will get the program off to a good start by helping to keep costs low and assist in the long-term sustainability of the project.
Anyone wanting to join the Men’s Shed, help out as a volunteer, or make a donation to the tool box can contact Mr Jones at Healesville Living and Learning Centre on 5962 5982.
