Shield produces mixed results

By Keith Thompson, Secretary YVCA
ROUND 11 began on Saturday in warm conditions with the 36 degrees seeming rather cooler than the previous few days which had been closer to the 43 mark. By early afternoon a cooling southerly breeze had come in and it was an acceptable day for our summer game, in the D J Strachan Shield.
Coldstream batted first in their home game against Wandin but could only manage a score of 79. Colin Rice made 25 before a spell of bowling which saw them lose 9/16 as Jackson Wright took 5/13 and Simon Young 3/14 to destroy the innings, Wandin in reply are 2/180 with Scott Hasan on 49.
Silvan travelled to Gruyere and batting first were all out for 253. J Harvie 53, C Reynolds 36, Matt Tilney was again in the wickets taking 5/52 assisted by G. Sweetten 2/41. In reply, Gruyere District are 3/59 at stumps with Chris Foster 22 not out and Mark Appleby has taken two of the three wickets to fall for 19.
At the Yarra Junction cricket ground on winning the toss they invited the opposition Hoddles Creek in to bat. At the end of the day’s play, Hoddles Creek had reached 9/216cc Scott Davies 74, G Searle 3/30, Nathan Fall 2/35.
On winning the toss at home, Seville decided to bat and in what has proven to be their best effort with the bat for the season finished the day at 9/253. Dean Troyahn 49, Richard Dicello 43, Adam Burns 34, Dan Ryan 2/37. This may not be beyond Woori Yallock next week as they have been batting extremely well over recent matches but Seville will certainly have an opportunity having 253 on the board.
Launching Place United all out for 136 Jesse Ridd 47, Hugh Wadsworth 27, Cam Darwell 4/34 have already been passed by Warburton- Mill who at stumps are 4/149. Liam Barnard 52, Scott Darwell 36, Rory Balck 2/42.

Yarra Glen batting first in their home match against Seville were all out for 133. J.Holland 39, Nathan McGill 3/16. Seville at stumps in reply needing to have a win to keep their finals hopes alive are 2/79 Jon Woods 1/11.
