Post-bushfire plans for recovery

YARRA Glen and district communities will have an opportunity to have their say on how they see post-bushfire recovery for their areas.
A Community Recovery Planning workshop facilitated by the Victorian Bushfire Recovery and Reconstruction Authority (VBRRA) is being held on Monday 7 September in Yarra Glen.
VBRRA is keen to get input from the local communities within the Yarra Ranges on where and what communities want to do post bushfires.
“We want to hear from people … ‘What kind of recovery do you envisage? What types of projects do you want to see? How can we re-build, reshape, regrow post the traumatic events of Black Saturday,’” said Maria Romanin, Community Engagement co-ordinator with VBRRA.
“We are inviting residents of Yarra Glen, Steels Creek and Dixons Creek to put forward their ideas in the spirit of a united community,” she said.
“On the night of the fires and the weeks that followed we saw an enormous outpouring of community support for each other. We pulled together, we hugged, we cried and together we helped each other to get past it and to work towards getting back on our feet,” she said.
“How do we keep this sense of community, this shared spirit of belonging and renewed togetherness in the face of trying times?” she asked.
Ms Romanin urged residents not to miss what will be an important community building event.
“Be a part of working on the things that matter to you, be a part of the solution, come along and have your say,” she said.
The meeting to be held in the McCoombe Room at Yarra Glen Memorial Hall will start at 6.30pm.
