THE driver of a car involved in a fatal head-on collision at Seville East on Sunday morning was from Launching Place.
Police attending the crash on the Warburton Highway near the Woori Yallock Creek say the Honda Civic driven by the 21-year-old man was heading towards Woori Yallock at 9.30am when it collided with a Nissan Navara heading in the opposite direction.
The man was trapped in the vehicle and died at the scene.
Two female passengers were transported by air ambulance to the Alfred Hospital and the 48-year-old driver of the Nissan was taken to Maroondah Hospital.
Acting Sergeant Graeme Rust of Yarra Ranges Highway Patrol said the Nissan driver was lucky to escape serious injury.
The condition of the passengers is unknown.
Police from Mooroolbark, Yarra Junction, Healesville and the Yarra Ranges Highway Patrol attended, along with CFA and ambulance.
Police are appealing for witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to phone Senior Constable Peter Baker at Moroolbark Police on 9739 2300.
In other road incidents on the weekend the driver and passengers in a car that flipped and caught fire in Wesburn were lucky to escape uninjured, while an 18-year-old Yarra Junction man had his car impounded for hoon driving at Launching Place.
Warburton police arrested the driver of a car that was seen doing burnouts in Yarra Junction on Saturday night and was observed by police as it approached Wesburn.
Police say the car was speeding as it rounded a bend and went past the police car before crossing to the wrong side of the road and mounting a metre-high embankment.
The car flipped twice before hitting a light pole and catching fire.
The four occupants of the car were trapped before police managed to put the fire out.
The driver will be charged with reckless behaviour endangering life and numerous other traffic offences.
Yarra Junction police say they will charge the 18-year-old Yarra Junction man on summons with careless driving in relation to burn-outs in a car park near the Launching Place kindergarten on Saturday night.
Police were acting on information from the public and urge residents to phone triple zero when they see or hear driving which appears dangerous.
