UP-TO-DATE fire danger information will be available to Yarra Valley residents as part of the first launch of automated Fire Danger Rating signs around the state.
Automated signs at Coldstream, Narbethong and Castella are among the first of 57 that have been placed around the state warning drivers of fire risk around the area.
The signs display the daily Fire Danger Rating by weather district and are automatically updated from the CFA website.
Minister for Police and Emergency Services Kim Wells said the signs were placed in highly visible, high-traffic locations across the state and can be updated in an emergency.
“The automated signs can also be updated with an alert message sent directly from the State Control Centre, meaning motorists will receive the most up-to-date information on changing conditions,” he said.
“Victoria is the first state to develop and roll out automated Fire Danger Rating signs, so we’re leading the country with this technology.”
The automated signs accompany 350 static Fire Danger Rating signs across the state, which are updated manually by CFA crews each day over summer.
Mr Wells said that, while signs are a highly visible way to get the latest information, residents should gather fire information from a variety of sources.
