A BRAND new green has been confirmed for the Healesville Bowling Club, with the council announcing a $50,000 contribution for the project.
On Tuesday 15 July, the Yarra Ranges Council announced that the bowls club was one of five sporting groups to receive funding as part of its Capital Development Grants program.
The club will receive $50,000 to upgrade its bowling green, which complements $50,000 announced by Seymour MP Cindy McLeish, in November.
The money will go towards converting one of the club’s greens to synthetic grass, which will allow the club to play more frequently.
In total, the new green will cost around $147,000, and the surface is expected to last for the next 10-15 years.
Yarra Ranges mayor Fiona McAllister said the council provided grants annually for upgrading sporting, social and recreational infrastructure.
“We know these activities are essential in developing healthy individuals and communities,” she said.
“It’s important that there is access for all to participate and Capital Development Grants is one way council can support this.”
November’s announcement of the new green was met with an eruption of cheers from bowling club members, and Healesville Bowling Club members, Warwick and Helen Etty said they hoped it would bring more people to the club.
The Steels Creek Tennis Club received $4000 under the grants program, to install solar power at the club.
