BRIGADES on either side of the Yarra Valley are inviting their communities to celebrate their partnerships.
Yarra Glen CFA will say ‘thanks’ to Ritchies IGA and their local community with a display and information session at the Yarra Glen store on Saturday, 21 November from 9am to 1pm.
Brigade members will be on deck to sizzle some sausages, organise activities for the kids and help with home and bushfire information.
Yarra Glen CFA’s Louise Higgins said Ritchie’s IGA, the local community and businesses had been incredibly supportive of the CFA after the 2009 bushfires.
She said the launch of the Community Benefit Card and the events of Black Saturday and the weeks following culminated in the community wanting to support the local brigade.
“Through the Community Benefit Card a significant amount was donated towards a new truck,” she said.
“Yarra Glen CFA are thankful for the support that Mark and his team provide – whether that be assisting us with the distribution of calendars, hosting us for our annual Father’s Day raffle, or assisting us with the supply of sausages for community barbecues.”
In Millgrove, the Wesburn-Millgrove CFA, supported by River Valley Church and Millgrove Residents’ Action Group, is holding a community open day on Sunday, 20 December between 10am and 2pm.
The day will celebrate the opening of the new fire station and community refuge and to provide the community with an opportunity to look through the new facility.
The theme is “Fire Station Celebration”.
There’ll be a free community sausage sizzle, information stalls from CFA, SES and other emergency services, a community market and children’s activities as well as tours of the new station/refuge.
