THE Mountain District Car and Bike Show has continued to draw high-calibre entrants from the Yarra Ranges area and beyond.

Now in its 10th year, the enormously popular event is not only a great inspiration for car lovers, but raises tens of thousands of dollars for local charities.

Around $14,000 was raised from this year’s show, which will go towards purchasing a vital signs monitor for a Lilydale-based oncology unit

Other local community groups to benefit will include the Men’s Shed in Badger Creek and the Monbulk CFA Auxiliary.

Event organiser Jacqueline Sheppard said the show had gone from strength to strenth.

“There were around seven similar shows in the metropolitan areas on the weekend, so to get such great numbers is fantastic,” she said.

“There seemed to be a greater variety of vehicles this year.

“The number of bikes this year, too, was pleasing; this is something we’ve been trying to build on.”

There were 20 trophies up for grabs on the day, which were awarded through an independent judging panel.

But Ms Shepard said the day was more about good fun and company.

Organisers had hoped to this year break the $100,000 mark for donations to local charities, but have fallen just short.

However, Ms Sheppard was confident they would reach the total next year.
