A RECORD-BREAKING number of entries for the 2016 Warburton Up and Running Fun Run has delivered a big return for the local CFA and SES.
Organisers presented a cheque for $10,000 to Warburton CFA and Upper Yarra SES volunteers on 3 April, recognising the vital role the emergency services play in the Warburton area.
Up and Running spokesperson Sue Hoffman said ‘volunteers making a difference’ was a common theme between the organisations.
“Our event is totally dependent on the hard working volunteers who plan and run the event, and staff the event on the day,” Ms Hoffman said.
“The Up and Running organising committee under the auspices of the Warburton Advancement League is made up of dedicated volunteers, as are the CFA and SES,” she said.
Co-ordination team member Lesley Grimes said the event promoted the Warburton area and supported a very worthy cause.
“Up and Running is an all-round great event to promote Warburton and surrounds, while supporting two very worthwhile organisations,” she said.
She also thanked the sponsors.
“Our sponsors are vital to the viability of the event- with Bendigo Bank as the major sponsor and many other local businesses and organisations as event and support sponsors,” she said.
Both the Warburton CFA and Upper Yarra SES are currently recruiting, and Ms Hoffman and Ms Grimes encouraged people to find out more about what being an emergency service volunteer entails.
A range of roles is open within both organisations, and accredited training is provided.
