AN EVENING of improvisation, music and words will be held on Sunday, 13 November, with two artists teaming up to perform at Warburton’s Projekt 3488.
Andrew Darling and Indigo Perry, both Warburton residents, will perform The Forest Within at the converted Masonic Hall on the Sunday evening, with doors opening at 7pm ahead of their 8pm show.
Mr Darling, a trumpet player of 34 years, said he and Ms Perry would be completely improvising their performance, with his music matching her words.
Ms Perry is a lecturer in creative writing at Deakin University and a published author, and Mr Darling said she would be writing on a laptop, with her words being projected onto the walls of the venue as they were written.
“In a performance arena, what we do is a kind of mutual improvisation over about 45 minutes to an hour,” he said.
The idea for the performance came about through a discussion about poetry and writing between the two artists, and was formed through practice sessions in the East Warburton Redwood Forest.
“We found out very quickly we have a very deeply kind-of shared resonance, in the way we approach creativity,” Mr Darling said.
“The first session we had was incredibly powerful.”
He said the venue was “an artistic and beautiful experience in itself”, and that although Sunday’s performance would be a one-off, the duo would look at more performances in future.
The performance is being presented by the Yarra Ranges Council and the Yarra Art Rangers Network’s Art Seed Pod Project.
Entry is $15 per person, or $10 for concession holders.
