One last lap

Georgia Laven and Camden Hewitson compete in their last ever Little Athletics Championships event.

It was the end of an era for Georgia Laven and Camden Hewitson on Saturday 28 July as they competed in their last ever Little Athletics Championships event.

More than 1000 athletes from throughout Victoria descended upon Lake Dewar, near Myrniong, for the 2018 Little Athletics Victoria State Cross Country Championships.

Georgia has represented Yarra Ranges Athletics at every LAVIC championships since she started in under-8s, with the rare and enviable record of winning a medal at every championship.

Georgia ran a superb race on Saturday to finish a very close second place and secure her 24th and final LAVIC individual state medal.

Camden continued his outstanding form from the Athletics Victoria season with his best ever LAVIC championship placing, finishing an outstanding eighth in a very competitive field.

The club had three other medalists on the day, with Zoe Clarke (under-9 girls), Kiara Flavel (under-12 girls) and Maddie Laven (under-13 girls) comfortably winning their respective age groups.

U15 Boys 3km Camden Hewitson 8th 11.08

U9 Girls 1.5km Zoe Clarke 1st 6.02

U10 Girls 1.5km Stephanie Van Bemmel 11th 6.19, Kaylah Cannon 31st 6.45

U12 Girls 2km Kiara Flavel 1st 7.16, Piper Naismith 25th 8.32

U13 Girls 3km Madeline Laven 1st 10.49

U14 Girls 3km Mia Strudley 5th 11.51

U15 Girls 3km Georgia Laven 2nd 10.39

Next week is the Hills Challenge at Cockatoo. Yarra Ranges Little Athletics’ senior athletes will travel to Ballarat for the Lake Wendouree Road Races, which this year includes a 6km fun run.
