Book in for rhythm

THE inaugural Rhythm and Red concert was a sell-out success in December and Healesville’s newest music event is, it seems, on a roll.
Ewan Cloonan is one of the creators of what he describes as “a little folk club” set up, he says, by a few Healesville locals who wanted a more intimate venue to listen to music.
“The nights are all about the musicians playing to an audience that are there solely to see quality acts and maybe relaxing with a bottle of wine and a bite to eat,” he said.
The events will be held about every six weeks at Cheese Freaks and Book Nuts in Green Street.
Local musicians Shannon Kennedy, The Hannafords and April Maze wowed the audience in December and the next event on 16 January is looking good with Peter Denahy headlining.
“Denahy has had a huge career in music,” said Cloonan.
“He has played with many great Australian acts including The Ploughboys, Slim Dusty and Sara Storer.
“In 2008 he was nominated for a Golden Guitar award with his song The Ringing of the Steel and has recently shot to fame with his hit, “Sort of, Dunno, Nothin’.
A preview of it is available on YouTube.
The night will be opened by Warburton local, Dave Walker who has also been nominated for five Australian and Victorian country music awards.
Seating is limited to 50 so early booking is recommended.
