EFFORTS to keep the Healesville Sanctuary safe have been recognised this afternoon with the sanctuary’s Occupational Health and Safety Committee receiving top honours in this year’s WorkSafe Awards.
The 2013 WorkSafe Award winners, split across 10 categories, were announced this afternoon, with the Healesville Sanctuary scooping the award for Health and Safety Committee of the Year.
The award recognises performance and achievements of committees in committing to health and safety across their entire workplace, and the committee were chosen ahead of other finalist, Rowville’s Parmalat Safety Committee.
Healesville Sanctuary’s 12-person Occupational Health and Safety Committee have a number of means to lessen the risk of accidents occurring in the workplace, including the introduction of safe operating procedures.
No lost-time injuries, which require employees to take time off of work, have been recorded since 5 May 2012 at the sanctuary.
The group was announced as one of the finalists for the award on Thursday 27 June.
