Alternative animals focus of show

AN ALTERNATIVE farming experience is available for community members, with technology, cattle and seminars on offer for farm-folk at an annual exposition.
The Seymour Alternative Farming Expo will open on Friday 14 February and close on Sunday 16 February, offering a snapshot of the latest in technology and rural lifestyles.
Organiser Colin Stray said the event, which will be held at Kings Park on Tallarook Street, Seymour, has been tailored to ensure that families and children are well catered for.
“There is plenty for them to see and do and it will take them a full day to see it all,” he said.
Mr Stray said that families will be interested in the CraftAlive exhibit, which features the work of about 40 hobbyists and craftspeople with mediums such as needlework, patchwork, quilting and jewellery.
He said that one of the key attractions to the event was elements of the latest technology and a focus on alternative breeds of cattle, sheep, goats, pigs and poultry.
“Livestock breeders and owners will be on hand throughout the event and willing to help visitors with any information they might need, especially if they’re considering starting up their own livestock enterprises,” Mr Stray said.
Food and wine lovers will be taken care of with local produce and wines found in three food courts and a live butcher demonstration, where carcases will be broken down and the best cuts of meat created.
There are numerous other demonstrations available at the exposition, including seminars from industry experts and practical workshops.
Mr Stray said that more than 40,000 people are expected to make their way to the three-day event.
